15 December 2015 Award of Macedonian Quality 2015

What comes as a final wrap-up of the success Kamnik winery achieved in 2015 on various international wine competitions and events, is the Award of Macedonian Quality 2015, awarded on a ceremony in December 2015 by the President of the Republic of Macedonia and by the Association of Macedonian Chambers of Commerce. This significant recognition is awarded to selected domestic companies that have established tradition in building the Macedonian business identity and which act as ambassadors that promote the Macedonian quality successfully, both on national and on international level.

Except for the rich harvest in the Kamnik vineyards, this autumn is made golden for the Kamnik winery with the two gold medals won at AWC VIENNA 2015, Austria. (more)

AWC VIENNA is known as the largest officially recognized wine competition in the world, with 11.000 wine entries, 1.650 producers from 40 countries from all over the world. The prestigious reputation this competition holds is largely due to the blind tasting system and the international jury of reputable wine experts. The official presentation of the result took place on October 25 in Vienna City Hall.

The Kamnik winery participated at this large-scale event with two of its wines, Signature Merlot Grand Reserva 2012 and Ten Barrels Syrah Reserva 2012, both winning AWC VIENNA 2015 gold medals.

Signature Merlot Grand Reserva 2012
A special semi-dry red wine produced from 100% carefully selected grapes of the Merlot variety. The curiosity about this wine is the natural crop reduction resulting in partial dehydration of the grapes on the vine itself.  The 23-months ageing process that takes place in new American and French oak barriques results in an intense, ripe and complex nose of red berries purée, discrete vanilla and hues of menthol and clove. The taste is rich, full-bodied and exceptionally ripe, with a soft tannin structure and harmonic acids, and with a long-lasting fruit-&-chocolate aftertaste. The extended bottle ageing period, under appropriate conditions, will add even more complexity to this wine.  This wine is perfectly combined with red meat specialties, game in piquant sauce, strong cheeses.

Ten Barrels Syrah Reserva 2012
The uniqueness of this Syrah wine, originating from our own vineyards, is created by applying the double yield reduction method which results in a partial dehydration of the grapes on the vine. These ampelotecnical procedures enable obtaining a phenolically ripe wine with an intense ruby red color, with high extract level and ageing potential. The aroma is complex, fruity and spicy, abundant in red and dark berries, revealing blackcurrants. The taste is elegant, full-bodied, with a long aftertaste. The 25-month ageing process, taking place in new American and French oak barriques, results in a good structure, integrated tannins and aromas of vanilla and blackberry jam.
